BCC Staff Note: You’re reading the eighth in a multi-part BCC Grace & Truth blog series on Biblical Counseling Education and Equipping. These posts are written by leading biblical counseling equippers/educators. In today’s post, Nicolas Ellen of The College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas shares about The Mission and Motivation of the College of Biblical Studies.
The Mission and Motivation of the College
The College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas provides biblically-based education for the Body of Christ, with primary focus on African-American and other ethnic minority groups, and equips its students with a biblical worldview for Christian service to the church and the world. By 2020, the College of Biblical Studies seeks to become the premier Bible college in Texas focused on transforming a diverse student body to serve Christ and impact families, churches and communities, to the glory of God.
The College of Biblical Studies is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate and baccalaureate degrees and with the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) formerly the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges (AABC), a national accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the United States Department of Education and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. This provides our students with assurance that their credits and degrees are transferable to other colleges and seminaries abroad.
The Major in Biblical Counseling
The College of Biblical Studies offers a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Counseling. The training is comprehensive and involves leading students into a systematic understanding and application of the Bible to common and complex issues of life. Students are provided with keen insights into the principles and procedures for genuine biblical counseling. As a professor of biblical counseling, I truly enjoy watching our students grow in knowledge and skill in the principles and practice of biblical counseling.
Coming in the near future we plan to take the biblical counseling degree to an online format so that we can reach individuals who may not be able to make it to our campus. This exciting and also challenging as faculty and staff work together to make the online degree as solid as the on-ground degree.
