BCC Staff Note: You’re reading the third in a BCC Grace & Truth blog series on Biblical Counseling in Canada. Each post will be by a biblical counselor in Canada, and either focus on the state and future of BC in Canada, or highlight an important theme that Canadian biblical counselors and all biblical counselors need to ponder.
Biblical Counseling’s Growth
The province of Quebec counts only 0.6 % of Evangelicals in its midst. As a result, gospel-centered resources for churches and believers are painfully missing.
Nevertheless, SEMBEQ Seminary in Montreal has been a leader in the past decade in developing French-speaking, scripturally-sound, and gospel-centered resources.
In the past 5 years, SEMBEQ (in partnership with CCEF) has been developing a Bachelor of Art degree in Biblical Counseling. Furthermore, an introductory class in biblical counseling is now mandatory for all SEMBEQ students, whatever their major is.
This change will certainly be instrumental in the development of a vision of biblical counseling in the Evangelical movement of the province of Quebec and the French-speaking part of Ontario and the French part of New Brunswick.
The next step is to have many French-speaking biblical counselors who will publish French Canada’s own books in the context of their own French-speaking culture. French-Canadian believers need books in the “language of their heart” in order to understand well the biblical dynamic of change. French-Canadian students who study to become pastors need biblical textbook in their language in order to understand what real biblical change of the heart is all about.
Please, pray for us, the need for financial support for teaching, translation, and adaptation is huge. French Canada is really a mission field! We need above all you earnest prayers. If you want to help us, you can contact me at SEMBEQ Seminary.
