Lambert Named New Executive Director of NANC

BCC Staff Note: The following article announcing the appointment of Dr. Heath Lambert as the new NANC Executive Director was first posted by Aaron Cline of Towers which is a news service of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. You can read the original article here. Current NANC Executive Director, Randy Patten, will continue in a three-year Executive Director leadership transition, positioning NANC to continue to minister effectively in training and certifying biblical counselors.

Lambert named Executive Director of NANC

The board of the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC) voted unanimously to elect Heath Lambert as executive director, the organization announced, Oct. 2. Lambert, who is assistant professor of biblical counseling at Boyce College, will assume the position effective Oct. 1, 2013.

Lambert will continue teaching at Boyce, which is the undergraduate school of Southern Seminary.

“Southern Seminary is proud of Heath Lambert’s election as executive director of NANC,” said R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the seminary. “His election underlines the deep commitment of Southern Seminary and Boyce College to biblical counseling and to leadership in this important movement.”

NANC, according to its website, is a “fellowship of Christian pastors and laymen who have banded together to promote excellence in biblical counseling.” Founded in 1976, NANC represents the largest organization of biblical counselors in the world and works to train and certify biblical counselors and biblical counseling training centers.

Nouthetic counseling — a term used synonymously with “biblical counseling” – is an approach to Christian counseling that contends for the sufficiency of the Scriptures to address and meet the needs of “suffering and sinful people.”

“I am deeply honored to be asked by NANC to serve in such a significant way,” said Lambert, who is also currently pastor of biblical living at Crossing Church in Louisville, Ky. “I am excited about advancing a vision of biblical counseling, now not only in my teaching ministry at Boyce and Southern, but also in bringing leadership to such an important network of biblical counselors across the globe.”

Concerning Lambert’s election as executive director of NANC, Boyce dean Dan DeWitt said:

“I’m thrilled for the Lamberts, for NANC and for the students of Boyce College and Southern Seminary. This is an absolute affirmation of Heath’s leadership and of the caliber of program he has created here. This represents a strategic and symbiotic partnership that will provide exceptional opportunities for advancing the gospel through the equipping of biblical counselors.”

Lambert is married to Lauren and they have three children: Carson, Chloe and Connor.

More information about NANC is available at the organization’s website, nanc.org.

  1. What great news! Heath will do a fantastic job. I’m excited about the future of NANC under his leadership.

  2. The transfer of leadership in an organization from a successful long-term leader to another can be challenging. I’m thankful the NANC board chose a process and a new leader to help make this a smooth transition. Join me in praying for God to bless Randy Patten and Heath.
